The House

Cristóbal Balenciaga opened his first house in San Sebastián in 1917 and moved to Paris in 1937, where his fellow couturiers came to regard him as the master of them all.

The balloon skirt, the sack dress and the cocoon coat all began with him. The house has kept his appetite for unexpected volume, turning the strange into the desirable.

“Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.”
— Cristóbal Balenciaga
