Louis Vuitton

The House

Louis Vuitton opened his Paris workshop in 1854, building flat-topped, stackable trunks for a new age of travel by train and steamship.

The Damier check followed in 1888 and the Monogram canvas in 1896, designed by his son Georges to deter copies. More than 170 years on, the house still sets the standard for luxury travel.

“Luxury is a dream, and fashion is its language.”
— Louis Vuitton
